I heard some rumblings about numerous players preparing to jump in the portal…I was informed that it could be a substantial number.

As I’ve said somewhere else on social media, I hate to see Myers go but he struggled to stay healthy. And that new JUCO transfer Tyler Dudden looks every bit the part of a true dual threat QB. So here’s to hoping he pans out.

Gready his film did look good. The only problem I could see is he looks like Richesson only smaller. He will need to put some weight on between now and summer if he plans on running any. A lot of these defensive UAC players were 2’s at major fbs programs. It’s a huge jump between juco and the UAC. Hopefully they can get him in the weight room asap. Hopefully Brown has set aside some $ to try and land an fbs transfer. If the entire Qb room is gone we need several transfers.

It could partly be that Brown wants to clean house too. He may have realized some of the players weren’t good for the program and asked them to leave which triggered a bigger falling out.

Either way, we will see how this goes.

JoshUCA I hate to see him go. He has been a Bear his entire life. I have a contact fairly close to the family. I don’t bug them during the season. Myers wasn’t asked to leave. They wanted him to stay. He had signed with an agent the day or day after the last game. Didn’t say anything negative about Brown, but I got the feeling Brown might have blamed him one too many times. After the way the season started I was just happy to be back in games when he came back. Sacramento State team didn’t even finish ranked and we got slapped by them. He did have surgery right after the season and is recovering. Pretty insane he played the 7 games on a broke foot.

JoshUCA I had heard Henry, Myers and Chambers were probably gone a while back. I didn’t want to believe it. Brown needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat.

Henry leaving in my opinion is not on the coaches. He’s an FBS guy. Regardless of what ends up happening with the QB situation there has to be an actual competition not just a he’s been here he’s our guy. The guys behind Meyers left because they were going to sit if they were better or not until their time. Meyers is a good kid and he may always come back but unless they let others really challenge him he won’t reach his potential and we won’t know if the best guy is even out there. I’m a Coach Brown supporter but QB has been our biggest issue for a few years that I hope gets fixed this season. I’m sure it will but the competition on the JUCO kids film is really lacking. He looks like he weighs 100lbs it would shock me if he’s the answer.

jdp1205 Point of clarification….Tyler Dudden is 6′4″/210lbs and Austin Myers is 6′4″/210lbs as well. So not sure where the looking barely 100lbs comes from. Other than maybe Tyler just carries the weight differently than Myers. And Luther is 6′3″/225lbs. So he was a little heavier but in looking at the Tyler’s kid recent JUCO footage, Tyler moves a lot smoother and better than both Myers and Luther did.

I think that was a big issue in the past. Mcelvain who stayed unchallenged for 3 years when at times especially late in his career he probably needed to be benched. It really looked like they brought Richesson in to challenge him or replace him, but Richesson was struggling bad. If you remember Brown wouldn’t officially name a starter for the Missouri game and split reps the entire fall camp. I had never seen that before. I watched a couple of scrimmages and Myers stood out. But I agree that the new kid won’t be able to run on this level unless he gains a lot of weight. The competition looked underwhelming. Hopefully he proves me wrong. Go Bears.

Agree but there was never really a doubt who they planned to start. They can make who they want look as good as needed in a scrimmage. You had 1’s vs 3’s on defense. Coaches can really control the narrative. My guess is Meyers comes back and Coach will figure it out. He will be much improved.

jdp1205 I just don’t think the team was given to him like you are implying. I will say it has been an issue in the past. Was there a 4 or 5 you wanted to see get minutes? The first 3 all got 1’s at some point in the season.

Greedy if that kid is 210 I need to go on a diet. 😂 His bio says 200. Honestly looks about 190. He has plenty of time to add weight. I think next years starter is still to come. I’m assuming they are going to try to bring in someone with some pedigree. Brown will save it for the last minute. Kids are just now hitting the portal.

U-C-A-BEAR I try to deal in facts and stats unless I’m just throwing out my opinion. But most every bio I’ve seen list him at 210lbs. And by the looks of it, if Myers is 210lbs, then I’d have to say he is as well. But either way, yes he can put weight on if need be or he can stay 210lbs if that’s true and we see what he can do at 210lbs.

And I’m all for the spirit of competition. I hope we do land some other QBs or maybe even have Koger or one of the other guys withdraw from the portal if it’s not looking like they’ll land somewhere that’ll be a better fit. Whoever it ends up being, they better know how to throw the ball away when there isn’t anything open OR take off and run.

Wasn’t trying to be negative just know we need to do better at QB. Depth chart was set the last few years before a single practice rep and didn’t change. That’s not competition and that’s why some of the younger guys the last 3 signees are all gone. They never got a chance to prove they were better. All 3 had better high school careers and stats than the guys we played this year. One left after Spring/summer and went to Harding, one JUCO, and the other is in the portal.

Understand. I only say that because I was getting frustrated because we wouldn’t even name starter for the Missouri game. We had the entire spring and fall to figure it out. Below was an article that came up. Couldn’t figure out how to attach it. I’m old. Richesson struggled moving the ball during the scrimmages I watched and that continued into the first 4 games of the season. There just wasn’t much sugar coating it.

Thunderbird59 Do tell. I love a great walk on story. But as of this moment (from the sources I can find), Austin Myers, Caleb Koger, Jack Patterson, Luther Richesson, and Peyton Lyon are all entering the portal. Only other listed QBs from this past season are Ethan Phillips and Patrick Miller. Outside of the new JUCO transfer they signed, Tyler Dudden, I’m not aware of a PWO. But I’d love to know we got one coming that can play. It’ll make the QB position a welcomed competition.
