MountainBear I’m not entirely sure all the specifics of it, but my understanding is that it doesn’t just give all JUCO transfers a clean slate, but was a blanket waiver for 2025-26 specifically, for athletes whose NCAA eligibility would have otherwise expired this year (which is why Bree Stephens qualified for the additional season); and that the NCAA is appealing the ruling hoping to go back to enforcing the eligibility rules as they were before.

So even though Chris Mason was in the JUCO system for a year, he doesn’t get that additional year under the Pavia waiver because he still has NCAA eligibility remaining. Now, he may end up getting it in a few years based on how the forthcoming court proceedings go, but for now it’s still just three years.

JoshUCA I’m confused at this offering. He committed to D1 UCA Bears, but looks to only have picked up other JUCO offers in state? Is this one of those guys who hopes to work hard for a couple of years to get playing time? I can’t imagine him getting much freshman minutes based on other offers, but who knows.

Yeah, don’t know much about him but helped lead Bryant to a 6A state championship. Good shooter it appears. We have a couple senior guards this next year so could be looking to step on once the rotation shortens.

Transfer destinations of UCA players:

Nehemiah Turner - Minnesota

Layne Taylor - Murray State

Michael Evbagharu - Canisius

Brayden Fagbemi - UC Davis

Wish them all well. Turner and Taylor definitely showed big potential, and every team seems to lose half their team each year in the portal era.

Getting Hunter back from Wisconsin is huge. Hopefully they announce the full signing class before too long.

Wishful thinking: Maybe Nemo will come back after a season like Cam did. Minnesota, like Wisconsin, is just too cold that time of year!

Do you think UCA could ever pull a Top D2 in-state basketball talent? Or is the gap too big?

Mulerider They have. They signed Rylie Marshall from D2 Harding, and I think he was all-conference and a 14ppg scorer, and Bolden was an all conference player from D2 Mississippi College.

I am curious, now that Junior College doesn’t have the added benefit of allowing immediate transfer, D2 is just as valid a recruiting ground now. Not sure the difference in level of competition but an interesting change with the new portal era.
