From the people I’ve talked too, there are tons who are ready to move on from Brown. After doing some research over the weekend, I compiled a realistic list of coaches and personnel members the Bears should go after to turn this program into a real D1 football program!!

HC:

Landon Keopple (Texas State OC) from AR
Rylan Wells (Western Carolina OC)
Grant Duff (Idaho State DC)
Chase Mummau (Tennessee Tech DC)
Darrin Chiaverini (Northeastern State HC)

GM:

Drew Martin (Miami OH DPP) from AR unlikely
Braden Erwin (Western Carolina Assistant GM)
Colton Edwards (Tennessee Tech Assistant Director of Scouting) from AR
Will Chapman (MTSU Scouting Coordinator)
Justin Lyons (Arkansas Player Personnel Assistant)

Also to add, Darrin the Northeastern State HC interviewed and was interested in the Arkansas State job before they went with Butch.

Keopple’s from Conway and has had success at SAU. His dad coached here…don’t know if this would fit his career aspirations or not.

D2: Adam Dorrel at Central Oklahoma. Guy at Harding isn’t leaving
FCS: Clint Killough at Incarnate Word or Pete Rossomando at Lamar

Rossomando would be great. Do we think UCA is a positive move from Lamar, though? 5 years ago, absolutely. I don’t think I could confidently say the same now.

I think the ceiling is still higher in Conway. Current status…probably on par or worse

First I’d say I don’t think we’re at the point of needing a new HC or GM despite our recent slump. But we’re close. Secondly, if and when that times comes, I think we need to go with someone who doesn’t have any Conway or UCA ties at all. Start from scratch and focus of bringing in additional coaches/staff with no ties to Conway or UCA so we don’t fall into the whole “hire and promote from within” culture. As this very question/position has come up several times, my position is the same now as it was then, just hire a HC with D1 HC experience. At least 3-5 years of it. So insert all the names of whoever meets that criteria and I’m good.

Not sure if I would be a fan of Adam Dorrel. Look at his record when he was at Abilene (19-32 overall). However, he did win 3 D2 Championships. I just don’t think he was able to bring the same amount of success. It would be a gamble.

Would we take a gamble at one of our current coordinators?

I like the Landon Keopple option since his family is already in Conway. I feel like he is a player’s coach as well that is extremely fiery and expects success. The question is, would he be making as much at UCA?

What if UCA took a big gamble and went for a high school coach? Buck James is already in town.

Gready Mike Norvell?😏 lol but I can agree with not hiring anyone connected to Conway or UCA. That would take off Landon only off my list. That said, we’ve been on a constant decline since midway of the 2024 season so it’s no recent slump.

Mulerider No current UCA staff member should succeed in my opinion. SMU has been successful of hiring high school coaches to fill assistant and positional roles so something they may look at despite not for HC.

cfbevaluator 2024 is recent. Feel free to disagree. And your list looks good minus not including a single person of color on if for HC or GM. I think UCA would need to do a wide enough search of ALL available and interested candidates. Not just white men. Just like I said we don’t need to just focus on Conway or UCA connections. We gotta think outside of the box.

Gready obviously everyone that would be a good candidate but why even bring up race? It’s about the right man who can get the job done regardless of who they are. Would I want Tremaine Jackson? Absolutely but is it realistic no. He’s more likely to get an FBS gig or stay where he is.

and Taylor went to Jackson State so doubt he would be interested in leaving his Alma Mater. Berry is the only realistic candidate of the list you gave.

You introduced race into this discussion by not looking outside of one race for consideration. Don’t feel attacked. Just making you more informed. Maybe redo your list and include everyone who would be a good candidate that includes truly everyone who would be a good candidate. Just saying. I can assure you when I create my wish list, it’ll have good candidates of every race and hell even gender if there is a female HC out there that I think could get us to playoffs and beyond.

Mulerider Definitely struggled at ACU, but they were also not far from transitioning and were in a temporary stadium.

Still think you need some tie to the region. Not necessarily Conway, but need to have the ability to recruit the region and have good relationships with AR schools
