UCA vs UTRGV

The Vaqueros anounced that their previously scheduled h&h series with Sacramento State was canceled due to the Hornets moving up to the FBS. As a result, they have now agreed to a Home and home series with UCA. The first game will take place in Conway this season on October 24th, and the Bears will return the trip in ‘27.

Looks like we used some connections to secure this game. UTRGV’s Athletic Director is a UCA alum AND his father was ex-Bear Head Coach Clint Conque.

University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. They were actually going to be in the Asun then bolted for the Southland. Remember seeing that their community has some crazy support for them already. I think last year was the first year ever for their football program

Ok, with some research…formally UT Pan American. Became UTRGV In 2013.
36,000 students and some mighty deep pockets. 4th largest university in enrollment in Texas.

They will most likely dominate the Southland Conference and move to FBS very quickly.
Go 9-3 in the first year to have football. It proves that you can buy a team a lot faster than you can build a program.

@JoshUCA and @Charlie76 That 9-3 record isn’t as wonderful as it appears. Sul Ross State is D2 and they won 66-0, Langston is NAIA and won 80-0, and Texas Wesleyan is NAIA and they won 61-13. We beat Texas Wesleyan 63-3 back in 2021. Not taking away what UTRGV did but they could have easily went 6-6 if the 3 games mentioned were L’s against FCS opponents.
