It’s being rumored new hogs coach Ryan Silverfield is hiring Nathan Brown as a qb coach.

woosterbear I heard QB coach and co-offensive coordinator. Any idea where the rumor originated from? I couldn’t find anything online. The person who told me about an hour ago is a die-hard piggie fan and is usually pretty good at having some inside information at times.

If it has any teeth, I’d be happy for Nathan to make the move as I get that it’s a huge professional move up and with likely a significant pay raise. HOWEVER…I’d question his loyalty and integrity because he’s constantly been steadfast in his allegiance to UCA and bleeding purple. Defecting to the piggies would be considered treasonous IMO.

Would be huge for him and I don’t think you can call it treasonous that’s a stretch. Everyone everyone leaves for double the money at a bigger level. Regardless of your profession.

jdp1205 Didn’t mean treasonous in the utmost literal sense. But pretty close. Yes, most all folks would leave their current job for lots more money doing the same thing with greater exposure and possible impact. But that doesn’t make it right. Loyalty and integrity shouldn’t take a back seat to money. But again, I’d be happy for him and his family. But my guess is it’s just a silly rumor. There are way more qualified (no knock on Nathan) QB coaches and offensive coordinators out there. Nathan would only make sense if the piggies want to get an inside track on instate recruits because Nathan has been a huge thorn in their side when it comes to stealing quality instate talent. But we’ll see how it all goes or doesn’t go.

I don’t think that an inside track on instate recruits would have anything to do with them offering him a job as QB coach. I don’t ever remember us stealing a high school recruit that the Hogs had offered. Any

kid that is offered would choose the Hogs over UCA and I can’t see that ever changing. On the other hand not every one of the better recruits choose the Hogs, many go out of state to play. If they do hire Nathan many on here will be happy and we will indeed have a new coach!

1968graduate You’re mistaken about UCA not getting instate recruits over Arkansas. The first that came to mind was Vinny Winters out of Malvern. And when I checked 24/7 recruit, there are more than a few that were recruited by Arkansas and UCA but landed at UCA. I’m not saying UCA regularly lands higher rated instate recruits over Arkansas. But UCA does do it’s share of landing top 25 instate recruits along with as you mentioned others going out of state. For a FCS program, UCA gets more than it should from the mighty SEC Arkansas. The information is there to see. UCA has definitely prided itself in getting instate players and getting good use of them.

So I think it would a bonus to Arkansas stealing Nathan as a QB coach that he could heavily assist with instate recruiting. That’s all I’m saying. Personally I hope he stays to see if he can get back to winning ways. But if he goes…..next man up.

Yes the Hogs did recruit Vinny his junior year but he did not improve like they thought he would so the hogs did not offer him a scholarship. The hogs recruit a lot more players than they offer. I should have said that we have never stolen a scholarship player away from the hogs- there is a difference. Vinny has been here 2 years and still has not been a starter for us yet. We have had many hog transfers to play here after they could not contribute much up there but to my knowledge we have never stolen a player from them that they have offered a scholarship to.

1968graduate You’re moving the goal post. I mentioned Nathan being good at stealing quality instate talent. Now you’re trying to change the discussion into something it wasn’t. Whether Vinny or the host of other top instate talent seem to have panned out isn’t at the heart of the issue. That’s an everybody problem and not unique to UCA. To include the hogs. They too get instate talent that doesn’t pan out. Heck, UCA has gotten Arkansas transfers (I think mostly instate players) that haven’t sniffed the field much at all in a UCA uniform after transferring from Arkansas. And I didn’t want to go without saying that according to 24/7 recruiting of which I attached a link previously, Vinny was offered a scholarship by Arkansas. But I digress.

I could agree with you that it’s likely a rare feat that an instate player holding offers from UCA and Arkansas goes with UCA. But it does happen. And often times Arkansas will dangle the preferred walk-on carrot in hopes of getting instate players to come to Arkansas over UCA. And it works unfortunately not to the benefit of the player. They get buried in the depth chart or on the scout team only to have to transfer elsewhere after a year or two. Most still cling to the dream of playing FBS ball so they transfer out of state. Some realize that being on the team at Arkansas wasn’t the flex they thought especially if they aren’t playing so they come to UCA. My point has been and still is that Nathan has gotten quality instate talent to come to UCA and that might be just a bonus to trying to poach him from UCA. Quality being defined as at least 3 STAR instate talent. It’s all about numbers really. Arkansas is trying to further improve their image regarding securing as much instate talent as possible. Getting someone like Nathan on board who has done that as a D1 FCS coach competing for instate players against Arkansas would help Arkansas out tremendously. Again, I’m providing evidence by way of a link to the 2022 Top Football Recruits in Arkansas. In looking at the list again as I hadn’t in a while, UCA has secured several players (who had offers) from P4 programs. That’s crazy good recruiting.

woosterbear You referring to the 4am #BearClawsUp one? Seeing how there is a lot more talk on social media about it now, he might wanna make actual statement. Especially to avoid losing more to the portal than that were already planning to. A little preemptive damage control would be nice.

Gready, I’m not trying to move the goalpost. You are the one t hat insinuated that the hogs might hire NB because he had stolen instate recruits that the hogs had offered from them. I respectfully say that we have never stolen an instate recruit from them that they have offered. we may have taken a recruit that they had talked to but decided to pass on but as for as taking one away from them they really wanted that will just not happen. As for as Vinny is concerned when they signed Kobe Branham they then passed on Vinny and it’s very obvious they made the correct call there. We need to concentrate on out recruiting No. Al., UTM ,A. PEAY, EKU, and the likes because we are never going to out recruit the hogs, they are looking for 5,4, and high 3 stars players and we are taking a lot of 2 and hopefully several 3 star players. It is what it is !

1968graduate You absolutely tried. And continue to double down on something I never said. I literally provided link showing quality instate players that landed at UCA. And I never said UCA out recruits Arkansas. I was specific in what I said. Which was that it would be a bonus to hiring Nathan because he recruits instate well. You’ve added way more to what was originally stated to try to be correct or prove a point. That’s the definition of moving the goal post.

That said, I said what I said. And I heard what you said. We are in disagreement. I’m okay with that. But you might wanna check out those links I posted that show plenty of top 25 instate talent not only coming to UCA but also having had offers or serious interest from the Hogs. Those were likely recruits that Arkansas would have loved to have in addition to what they brought in. Again, feel free to disagree.

Now my bigger worry as a UCA fan is how kind will the transfer portal be to us in what we get versus what has left.

You might want to read your post #3 on this page. I’m assuming you are talking about stealing instate talent from the hogs since that is who you are talking about in your post. In post #5 on this page you state that UCA does it’s share of landing top 25 instate recruits along with as you mentioned others going out of state. for an FCS program, UCA gets more than it should from the mighty SEC Arkansas. Again insinuating that we are getting players that Arkansas is trying to get. Common sense tells me that we have never been able to sign a player that the hogs are actually trying to sign. I took your advice and checked 247 sports in 2022 and out of the top 25 players the hogs signed #1,2,3,4,5,6,8,10,11,14,25 we on the other hand signed #15,20,21,22,23 don’t really think we stole any from them that year. We did better in 2024 the hogs signed #3,5,7,9,15 in state players we signed #11,13,18,25 but no again on stealing any of their offered players. Someone may have moved the goalpost but it certainly wasn’t me. GO BEARS !

Plus you’re doing a lot of assuming about what the Hogs wanted and didn’t want just because they got the majority of the higher rated instate players. Not trying to insult you but I really do think you’re not understanding what I’m saying because you’re stuck on believing something I didn’t say. Over and over again I made the point that NB was likely being looked at by Arkansas for his ability to secure instate talent as a BONUS to what they’d get from him as their QB coach. Not the sole or main reason. Yet you seem to keep missing that along with not seeing that he has indeed likely stolen 3⭐ instate players that Arkansas were recruiting as well. What you want to believe or refer to as common sense isn’t factual. Arkansas loses players to UCA. But you wanna keep dismissing the players that UCA gets as basically just rejects that the Hogs really didn’t want. You sound like a Hog fan that can’t accept that “big brother” doesn’t always win out in instate recruiting. You’re so quick to speak it as gospel that if they landed at UCA it’s because Arkansas didn’t really pursue them. I know it seems hard to believe but UCA has done a remarkable job of signing quality instate talent. And again yes, players that if Nathan were at Arkansas, UCA wouldn’t have gotten.

I know we have gotten a few players that the hogs at one point recruited but all I’m saying is we never have flipped one player that they have offered or as you stay stole one from the piggies. Yes I support the hogs #2 but my money and #1 team is here in Conway where I have lived for 70 years of my life. What I’m saying is we need to out recruit the FCS schools and steal one from A STATE ever once in a while because we aren’t ever going to steal one from the hogs that they truly want and should never be expected too. If we are doing so well in recruiting it sure hasn’t shown up over the past 5 years. Tell me the 3 that we have stolen from the hogs because I have the ability to research that myself. I guess we’ll just have to respectfully disagree at this point. Anyway enjoyed the conversation and yes we need to do really well in the portal or we could see another year like the one we just witnessed. Hope we do well in recruiting and in the portal -in the meantime GO BEAR & SUGAR BEAR BASKETBALL TEAMS !
