So we're 3-5 with four conference games to go. Of which two of those remaining games are against teams that are currently ranked in the top 25. We play in a really tough conference (2nd or 3rd toughest FCS conference by most metrics) so I understand (that doesn't mean I like) how we're 3-5 right now. Plus when you look at who beat us, it just makes sense. Our losses are to Missouri (6-2/currently #19 in the nation FBS), Tarleton (9-0/currently #2 in the nation FCS), Sac St. (4-4/ currently receiving votes), Lamar (7-1/currently #14 in the nation FCS), and West Georgia (6-3/currently receiving votes). That's a 32-10 record for the teams we've loss to. You give ANY other FCS school this schedule and they at best eek out two wins more than UCA has. So for me, I'll be mildly okay (not loving or really accepting) of a 3-5 record with 2/3 of the season over. Having Luther Richesson start the first 5 games as a second string QB really hurt us more than most folks understand or are willing to admit.
All that said, if we can win 3 of the next 4 to end the regular season, I'll be okay with that. Realistically and if I were a betting man, I'd say we beat EKU this coming week for homecoming and ACU to end the season at home. Austin Peay and Southern Utah away from the stripes is just a big ask for win on the road. So at best we end 7-5 if we win out (highly unlikely but not impossible) but most likely end up 5-7. At 6-6 I'd say no chatter about Nathan's job. But if we end the season 5-7, I can't be mad about folks asking for his firing. How these last 4 games go will decide if I'd support calling for his firing if we end the season 5-7. However, whatever still GO BEARS!!!!!
